“BODY MATTERS” with Sexy Smarts! – KNOW, OWN, PROTECT (your body)

These presentations cover every age and stage of sexual development. The Q&A offers opportunities for interactive discussion. The overall goal is to promote sexual resilience, communication and empower people to ‘know, own and protect’ their bodies.

Sex Ed Essentials – Grade 7

  • One-day workshop
  • An overview of ‘need to know’ information
  • The course focuses on decision-making, puberty, the law, limited information on pregnancy and STIs, and touch communication
  • Safer sex demonstration is given
  • Not a comprehensive course

Comprehensive Foundation work – Grade 7 and 8

  • Two-day course
  • Foundation course to give young adolescents age appropriate information with a strong focus on interpersonal communication, relationship skills and healthy decision making
  • Covers the entire comprehensive sex education curriculum
  • Interactive content, educational games, and discussion groups
  • Practical demonstration on safer sex methods, birth control, and menstrual hygiene
  • Customised to the needs of the learners via anonymous questions
  • Customised to the needs of the school/group in cases where there are specific issues that need to be addressed

Information Integration Workshops – Grades 9 to 12

  • One-day comprehensive workshop
  • Using the Sexy Smarts: Let’s Talk About It book as a reference
  • Conversations that relate to topics not covered in depth in the younger groups due to keeping the information age appropriate
  • Includes interactive content, educational games, and discussion groups
  • Practical component allowing adolescents to engage with items related to safer sex methods, birth control, and menstrual hygiene
  • Customised to the needs of the learners via anonymous questions

Sexy Smarts for Young Adults – Grades 11 and 12

  • 90 minute discussions
  • Short presentation focuses on key aspects of sexual and reproductive health
  • Topics include personal identity, understanding sexual and reproductive functioning and tools to help with decision-making
  • Contraception and safer-sex practices are discussed and condom use demonstrated
  • Designed to prepare senior adolescents for adult life and healthy sexual citizenship

Annual Cumulative Workshops

  • Shorter annual workshops for schools that have had the foundation workshop
  • These expand on the information and conversations as the learner’s progress through adolescence providing a cumulative learning experience.

Topic specific conversations

  • Contact us for a topic specific presentations or customised workshop.
  • These can include topics that may be difficult to teach or viewed as taboo by some communities e.g. sexual identity, sexual response and masturbation, new legislation on ‘age of consent’, ‘What does sexual consent look like?’, STIs / HIV and safer sex
